There’s a lot of rumours going around that intermittent fasting isn’t safe for women. This is resulting in women being confused about whether to try it and worse still..giving up.
IF safe for most women, it’s the oldest diet in history and millions of women have done it since the beginning of time. There’s also no evidence to say it’s not beneficial (unless you have anorexia, are trying to conceive, breastfeed or have type 1 diabetes).
Three reasons to back up my argument.
- I did a google scholar search and the research shows it’s not harmful
- My wife (@drdarshankaur) has been doing IF for months and it has only helped her (DM for details)
- I’ve coached hundreds of women in weight loss and have not had a negative experience in terms of a woman health outcomes of hormones (regular periods, bleeding, conception etc).
Here’s a video where I explain the issue.
So why do some women online say its bad? My only explanation is that may they didn’t do it right? But because of their vocal opinions and influence, loads of women are getting put off!
I found as many new reports promoting it as I did not bloggers and YouTubers trolling it. At the end of the day, the decision is down to you.
Here are some news reports
Here’s a female doctors explanation. I don’t agree with everything she says for example when she talks about Ramadan not showing weight loss benefits. What she says is confusing but if you’re into details then this may be helpful. Overall she confirms there’s no much research and fasting is not harmful for women.
